I just unlocked my hw6925
I bought the hw6925 from AT&T and have been using it now for about a year and a half. Since I am planning a trip to The Netherlands next year, I decided to look into unlocking the hw6925 so I can use a prepaid Holland-based SIM card in it while I'm there (assuming I am still using the hw6925 at the time).
To use a cellphone internationally the cellphone must meet the following criteria:
- It must be GSM compatible
- It must be unlocked
- It must be a 850/900/1800/1900 compatible international cell phone
The hw6925 is a quad based GSM phone, supporting 850/900/1800/1900 frequency bands (international locations use the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequency bands, while US-based locations use the 850 MHz and 1900MHz frequency bands).
If you are an AT&T customer, unlocking the phone is easy!
- I found the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) Number for my hw6925 by tapping Start > Settings > System tab > HP Asset Viewer > GSM tab
- I called AT&T's customer service line (1-800-331-0500 or 611 from wireless phone) and pressed 0 until I reached a customer service representative.
- I gave the customer service representative my cellphone number and told her that I had an IPAQ hw6925 that I wanted to unlock for international travel and asked for the unlock code
- The customer service representative looked up my account information, asked me a few questions and looked up the unlock code for the hw6925 and gave me an 8 digit unlock code over the phone. She also sent me an email to confirm our conversation.
- Once I had the unlock code all I had to do to unlock my phone was
- Turn off the hw6925, remove the AT&T SIM card and insert a non-AT&T SIM card into it.
- When I turned the phone on with the non-AT&T SIM card in it, a message appeared on the screen that informed me the SIM card was not valid and could not be used. Underneath this message was an input box where I could enter the unlock code.
- I entered the unlock code, the phone accepted the code and the phone is now permanently unlocked.
I actually had to call the AT&T customer service number twice. The first time I called I got a customer service representative who obviously did not understand what I wanted. He told me my phone was already unlocked and when I disagreed with him, he put me on hold and disappeared, so I hung up and called again. On the second call, I got someone who was very helpful.
If you are not an AT&T customer, you'll need to purchase an unlock code
If you Google the term "unlock hw6925" or "unlock cellphone" you'll find several websites that will sell you an unlock code for your phone. Some months ago, I used one of these websites in an attempt to unlock an old Motorola phone I have, but they were unable to help me and refunded me my money.

The ATT rep must thought you had a Hw6945 which is the unlock version of the Hw6925. Have a nice trip.
Thanks very helpful..
