Getting into Shape with my Pocket PC -- Day 1
Over the years, I've been an on again/off again runner. It's been several months since I was consistent with my running routine and I think my Pocket PC will give me the kick in the pants I need to get off my duff, away from the computer and out on the road again.
Today I installed VidaOne's My Sport Training and its companion software, GPS for Pocket PC, to my hw6925. I'm looking forward to hitting the road with my dog Gracie, to see how well the GPS for Pocket PC software works.
My Sport Training was one of the applications I reviewed last year as a Judge in the Pocket PC & Smartphone Best Software Awards. The application has won the Health & Fitness category for the past four years and, in my opinion, the other nominees did not come close to offering such a nice combination of user friendly options. I've used some version of the software almost from the first day I started using a Pocket PC. It's a great and easy way to keep track of my running and racing schedule. I find that when I log my workouts, I become much more consistent with them.
My Sport Training is not limited to just running, the software comes configured to track any number of workouts: strength training, aerobics, baseball, basketball, boxing, diving, equestrian, fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, ice skating, kayaking, martial arts, mountain biking, road cycling, rowing, shooting, downhill and cross country skiing, soccer, stair climbing, stretching, swimming, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, and walking. And if that list is not comprehensive enough, you can add your own custom activity.
The application provides some really nice graphics, so after I've logged some runs and have more to show you, I'll post another blog entry to let you know how I'm doing and I'll include some updated graphs.
GPS for Pocket PC is integrated with MySportTraining and one of VidaOne's other fitness applications, MyPersonalDiet. If you have either of these applications installed on your GPS enabled Pocket PC, the GPS for Pocket PC application will automatically record your workouts to them. Even if you don't use these applications, you can still use GPS for Pocket PC to log your workout routes and then use a page on VidaOne's website to upload the GPB file the software creates to Google Maps or MapMyRide.com. Of course it's preferable to also use My Sport Training because, in addition to recording the workout route, the GPS software records other pertinent information such as duration, distance, pace and ascent directly to the My Sport Training database.
I didn't have a successful GPS experience this afternoon...I think I turned my Pocket PC off, so nothing recorded. But I'll try again on my next run and let you know how it goes. I'm not sure I will enjoy running with my hw6925. I need to figure out a way to secure the Pocket PC to my body so it doesn't bounce around while I'm running...I've already got plenty of other things bouncing around....![]()

Love the last line of your post!
If you find the GPS feature a solid investment, I'll go for it too.
