SKTOOLs includes a Benchmark option that benchmarks 6 different Pocket PC operations.   I honestly don't know much about these benchmarks, but here's what SKTOOLs writes about them:

  1. Integer: CPU performance index when working with integer values (Hanoi tower) (Moves/25 usec) - 15 iterations
  2. Floating point:  CPU performance index when working with floating point values (Whetstone) (MWIPS) - 9 iterations
  3. RAM access:  Memory access speed index (Speed index)
  4. Draw bitmaps:  Simple GDI test for for portrait screen orientation (Speed index)
  5. Main Storage:  File system read/write speed (Type: KB/sec) - 12 iterations
  6. Storage Card: File system read/write speed (Type: KB/sec)  - 12 iterations
Now, I have not paid much attention to benchmarks, but someone recently asked me to post the SKTOOLs benchmarks for my hw6925.  I ran SKTOOLs benchmark option on each of the following 3 IPAQs while the Pocket PCs were idle.  They were not using Bluetooth or WIFI, and no other programs were running in the background).

  hw6925 (WM5.0) rx1950 (WM5.0) hx2415 (windows mobile 2003se)
Integer 191.6532 143.2610 236.1437
Floating Point 5.480 4.133 7.046
RAM Access 1333 1243 9341
Draw bitmaps 990 648 820
Main Storage (write) 219.73 413.85 339.92
Main Storage
(read)
2230.94 3933.42 11070.27
Storage Card
(write)
217.01 185.98 111.26
Storage Card
(read)
589.35 1669.11 1885.24
IPAQ File Store (write) n/a   161.96
IPAQ File Store (read) n/a   2218.05
CF Card (write) n/a   530.16
CF Card (read) n/a   1658.30

These benchmarks support what I've known all along.....the Windows Mobile 2003se OS is much faster than the WM5.0 OS.

How do these benchmarks compare to your Pocket PC?  You can get SKTOOLs here.

Here's mine. I ran 3 times because of some of the large differences. May be time to do a cold reload, huh?

What a difference!  If you decided to perform a clean reset, post back new Benchmarks before you've got your 6925 loaded up again.  That would be a good baseline to compare against.

Ok, I will do it over the weekend. Scary! Hope I can get everything back the same - except faster, of course. I will use your Sprite BU recommendation for key files (of course, I won't do a full restore! That would not solve anything.) I wish I had been keeping a diary of the tweaks and changes I have made. I do think I have all the passwords, though.

I have Vito's buttonmapper loaded (to get context sensitive one- and double-click action from the side button on the 6925. I wonder if that is a culprit?

Ok, did a hard reset and loaded SKTOOLS first (after Afaria, which my company uses to manage the iPAQ.) Here are my results:

    Julie’s hw6925 (WM5.0) Rick’s hw6925 Rick’s hw6925
    2nd run Rick’s
3rd run Rick – after Hard reset Rick – 2nd run after hard Reset
    Integer 191.6532 186 175 176 162 208
    Floating Point 5.480 5.2 4.9 5.4 5.4 5.5
    RAM Access 1333 1247 1392 1424 1441 1463
    Draw bitmaps 990 985 1468 1008 1643 1055
    Main Storage (write) 219.73 92.9 66 91 925 912
    Main Storage
    (read) 2230.94 1661 739 1826 2464 2425
    Storage Card
    (write) 217.01 28 33 33 32 32
    Storage Card
    (read) 589.35 2690 4216 12387 (!) 989 896

    Comments:
    1) There is a lot of variance in the results from run to run.
    2) Hard reset helped
    3. I thought we had the same SD card? Yours looks like one of the fast write ones?

As far as I know we have the same SD card.  I got the 4 GB SD card from memory suppliers.  But I've read that the read write speed can be affected by how much stuff is loaded on the card.  I've got iGuidance on it and several applications.  The card is about half full.

I ran the SK benchmarks on my HP2790 624 MHz and Windows 5.0
    Integer 313.1203
    Floating point 8.322
    Ram Access 902
    Draw Bitmaps 1460
    Main Storage (write) 1097.73
    Main Storage (read) 4442.52
All these numbers seem good except Ram Access. Why so slow? Any ideas?
    Thanks

Following are results of 2 runs on a new iPAQ 111 running WM6:

    Integer 255.5008 248.6665
    Floating Point 8.571 8.573
    RAM Access 923 921
    Draw bitmaps 1394 1436
    Main Storage (write)1731.19 1691.63
    Main Storage (read) 4494.51 4561.25
    Storage Card (write) 604.25 600.00
    Storage Card (read) 2879.10 3004.40

Note that these numbers are after soft reset and the storage card is a 4gb CL(4) SDHC about 22% full. On board storage is 42% full and about 26mb program memory (DRAM) is free.

So far I like it overall! It's my first PDA. Though it lacks certain features (which I personally don't miss) like IR and such, what it has seems to work well. My only real disappointment (beyond WinMo itself) is a bad pixel in the screen!
